Even before joining Stone Carnival, Carlito was best described as a ladies’ man. Warrior made no apologies for being a cocksman, and tales of his exploits are well documented on the Internet. Although his primary role in Stone Carnival consisted of playing keyboard and percussion, he is best known for playing the helmets – non-traditional instruments that were placed on the heads of fellow bandmates. This featured segment brought its own rewards. Women wanted him even more, and men wanted to be him (especially drummer Hunky Dory Starr, who always felt that he was better qualified).
As the band’s fortunes declined due to internal strife, Carlito’s star rose. Though his songwriting and performing skills were undeniable, some questioned whether he could overcome the painful memories of the embarrassment suffered while attempting to sing lead on “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” in high school. Undaunted, Carlito did overcome his fears and currently enjoys a career in music in Los Angeles, where he resides.
