Hunky Dory Starr

Always the activist, Hunky was widely viewed as Stone Carnival’s “green” member. Although not an environmentalist per se, Hunky’s life is a testament to his refusal to be confined by the laws of society, especially as they pertain to the use of natural herbal remedies. His unwavering stance once resulted in him going a full year without driving a car, drastically reducing his carbon footprint. Hunky now lives off the land, cultivating all necessities but food, which he continues to buy at the grocery store.

Briefly educated at the prestigious IU School of Music, Hunky’s gifts as a drummer were evident from an early age. After seeing Hunky in action at a high school performance of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up,” an acquaintance of Ringo Starr’s daughter Lee said “I’ll bet Lee’s dad would think he’s good.” Thus his surname was etched in stone.

When the band broke up, Hunky initially accepted Neal Schon’s invitation to play drums in a reworked version of Journey. After realizing that Journey’s singer was not actually Steve Perry, but merely an excellent sound alike, Hunky left Journey and contributed percussion to Berry Dale’s solo recordings. In the mode of drumming legends Peter Kris and Tommy Lee, Hunky sang lead on Berry’s power ballad “Sometimes You Can’t Win.”

Fun Fact: Hunky’s ultimate goal in music is to replace Ringo Starr in the All Starr Band.
